【STORY】
張り込み中の刑事が失踪。
彼の所持していた拳銃により、連続強盗事件が発生する。
暗礁に乗り上げた事件の解明に、特別重犯罪捜査班のホー刑事は、元刑事バンへ協力を要請する。
被害者と同じ状況に身を置くことで、様々な事件を解決させてきた半面、
数々の奇行が原因で、すでに刑事の職を失っていたバン。
二人は、行方不明になった刑事の同僚コウ刑事の身辺を調べ始める。
表向きの表情とは異なる裏の人格、思考を見通すバンは、コウ刑事の恐るべき異常性にすぐさま気づくのだった･･･

主人公は、他人の別人格が別の人間の容姿として視えてしまうという異能の持ち主。

また、トランク詰めにされたり生き埋めにされたり、被害者の立場に身を置くことによって、犯人の姿や犯行の過程が視えてしまう。

そんな特殊能力を駆使して事件を解決に導くが、周囲からは精神に異常をきたしたと見なされている。

この超人的な活躍ぶりと、周囲には理解されない孤独な姿のギャップがストーリーに深みを与えていると思う。

また、ある人物に対する幻覚も見えてしまうという点が、周囲からますます距離を置かれる原因になっている。

この現象に対して、本人は幻覚であると気づいているのか、あるいは現実と思い込んでいるのか、その辺ははっきりと自分には分からなかったけれど、相手の人物から拒否されたときの主人公の切なさに胸が痛くなった。

天才の凄みと悲哀を同時に描くことに成功した傑作だと思います。

ジョニー・トーの奇抜な才が光る作品。冒頭の珍妙な事件の推理のシーンや、存在しない奥さんとのシーンだけで見応えがあるが、ラストの鏡のシーンが秀逸だろう。トー映画の定番のラムシュが大食いの人格を担当していて、美味しそうにフカヒレご飯を食べているシーンはなんか可愛らしくてほっこりした。ただ、折角の面白い設定を十分生かし切れずに終わってしまった感が否めない。流石にこの複雑な設定で、90分ないというのは無理があったのではなかろうか。

その、原題通りです。何も邦題をつけなくても、それでいいのになぁと思います。
主人公が耳を切って、上司の勇退記念にあげた理由や、別れた妻の幻覚、犯人の中に入り込んでしまうあたり、本当にゾッとします。ある意味、ラウ・チンワンの演技に引っ張られ、こちらも違う世界をみてしまいそうになります。
何時も思うのですが、ジョニー・トーの作品はレンタルで通り過ぎるように観るのではなく、何度も何度も噛みしめる方が向いていると。

やはり トー監督 ただ者ではないですね ともすれば 支離滅裂 訳がわからなくなりそうな題材を 見事なサイコサスペンスに昇華させています相変わらず 香港の夜の街を描くのが上手いです 中盤の会食のシーン 主人公が奥さん(幻影)をのせて バイクを走らせるシーンがいいですね 音楽も好きです

これは面白かった。ジョニートー監督は大好きで、これは今までのトー監督の作品の中ではちょっと異色的な。銃撃シーンはそれっぽいけど。
元敏腕刑事のMAD探偵がホントにMADすぎて、やってる事、私生活全てめちゃくちゃで、ただのキＯＯＯなのか、わけわからなくなるけどなぜか事件の真相にいきつくという。

MAD探偵、耳をいきなり自分で切るシーンがあり、まったく劇中でも理由語られず、ちょっと意味がわからなかった、あとでわかったが、なんとMAD探偵はゴッホをモデルにしてるという。
ゴッホも違う意味でスゴイ人だとわかりました。

人の内面が見えるという探偵。　それが当人の背後霊のように人物化して見える。　しかもそれが異性だったり子どもだったり、まるで多重人格者を実写化したように見えるため、時々混乱しそうになりました。
その上、探偵のＭＡＤぶりがすさまじく、彼に事件の捜査を依頼した刑事だけでなく観ているこちらも翻弄され、彼は天才なのか狂人なのか、容疑者は犯人なのかそうではないのか、最後まで緊迫感を持って引き付けられてしまいました。
オーバーアクション気味で意味不明なシーンもあり、香港映画らしい毒々しさとスタイリッシュな映像が合わさった面白い映画でした。
そして探偵が最後に見た刑事の内面・・・とてもシュールな結末でした。

Johnnie To's MAD DETECTIVE is engrossing, entertaining and thought provoking with Milkyway style. Lau Chin Wan does an excellant job of portraying a psychotic detective who uses emotion not intellect to solve cases by being able to perceive people's inner selves. The direction and editing allows the viewer to perceive what the Mad Detective does while at the same time revealing reality without being confusing. This is one of the best collaboration between the director and the writer, a surreal masterpeice that draws one into another world where people are not what they seem. There are actually 2 different Blu Rays on the market. Be sure and buy the rarer Masters of Cinema version (if you can find it) which was remastered with the diretor's input if you want to see the film as intended, with colorful hues to set the mood, an uncropped picture to add depth and more special features. If you want to see the film without the colorful hues, causing it to look more realistic buy the more common version. It's the same film so either way you can go wrong if you like Asain or crime cinema.

Erstmal ist vorwegzunehmen, dass der Film nichts für Actionfans und Gelegenheitskinogänger ist. Er fordert vom Zuschauer eine kontinuierliche Konzentration und etwas Vorstellungvermögen, wer diesen Film also aus reiner Unterhaltung her sehen will, dem sei abgeraten.

Meiner Meinung bietet der Film eine erfrischend aussergewöhnliche Perspektive, auf die Verwirrungen des Geistes unseres Protagonisten. Der Film kann die Spannungskurve weitestgehend halten, was einerseits an der vortwährenden Aufklärung des Mordes und der damit zusammenhängenden Entwirrung der psychischen Störung des Protagonisten liegt.

Meiner Meinung nach einer der besseren Johnnie To Filme und für Freunde des Hong Kong Kinos ein Muss.

Mad Detective is a very intense 84 minutes film. Hong Kong-detective Bun has paranormal senses and can see and feel things invisible to anyone else, 'inner personalities' for example - or is he just mad? In the beginning of the film he cuts off his ear as a gift to his chief, and for this he is fired. Before this he has solved several crimes using his sixth sense. Then a young police officer wants Bun to help him solve a mysterious disappearance, and Bun is back in the game.
Telling more will probably spoil the movie. In short: this is an intelligent, quite original and very suspenseful movie withmany twists. And the actors are excellent. And the transfer from MoC is very good. I will see Mad Detective again and I am glad I bought it. There is violence but not more than usual - the worst scene is in the beginning when Bun cuts his ear. Included in the DVD are interviews with director and actors. Recommended to anyone interested in asian cinema, or cinema in general.

I would never pay so much for a movie, HOWEVER this is my one & only exception. I had to watch this movie for a cinema class in college and it took me four years to finally get my hands on a copy of this. I am very satisfied. Mad Detective is an interesting and unique story, well made and is by far one of my favorite movies. I highly recommend if you ever get a chance, watch this movie!

The mad detective is a confusing title to give this myriad of pointed prominencing amongst the life and times of detectives in hong kongs extreme 'unready' department of collusioning warranted officers. The promineering upon the shoulders of the less than ideal minds of a few officers with personality disorders and unshaped orienteerers. The storyline along the lines of finding the killer out of a police officer and getting back the commission of a few of the lighter of the hong kong's best units. The main actor knowing the inner personalities of people he meets with any kind of trait within his entailment. The confusion and comprehension of all the intricacies of what happens with the insensed of the moderated in police outer realms giving you the bad feeling of what illness some inner personalities give the retired hong kong officer at the centre of the storyline can get a person thrown about and away from the weller of societies. The story is well produced and manages a simple script, the dialogue simple enough for the less enlightened yet the difficult scenes at the beginning make it an adult movie, thoughtfully involving the person, unrightly. yet to keep the person in this newer light takes some doing, the excuse to lead the observer to an end where belief not rightly centres itself leads onto a proud outcome with the bells and whistles of a hidden hero keeping together a career in progression with the more modern of Chinese lifestyles. A make of some stomaching and presence of mind.
