緊急医療に従事する医師たちを描く海外ドラマの第8シーズン。今シーズンでは、ベントン、グリーンがついにカウンティを去ることに。これで第1シーズン以来のレギュラーはカーターのみということになるが、第3シーズンで去ったルイスが出戻ってくるのは、ファンには嬉しいところ。さっそくカーターといい感じになったり、人気ドラマ『サード・ウォッチ』とのクロスオーバー・エピソードの主役になったりと、ルイス先生、大忙しだ。すっかりおなじみの顔になったアビー、ルカ、チェンらも、それぞれにさまざまな試練に直面し、視聴者を大いに心配させてくれる。
しかしながら今シリーズの主役はやはりグリーンだろう。妻コーデイと先妻の娘レイチェルの確執、そして脳腫瘍の再発などのトラブルに次々見舞われるが、人間としての脆さを持ちながらも誠実であろうとする彼は、最後まで「ERの良心」的存在であり続ける。
彼に関する感動的なエピソードの後は、天然痘患者が発見されERが封鎖されるという息もつかせぬ最終話。グリーンが抜けてもシリーズは健在だと主張するようなその出来映えに、来シーズン以降への期待も高まる。（安川正吾）

Benton and his arrestingly beautiful girlfriend leave and so does Greene.

No one in the ER and probably most of the viewers do not like Benton. However, the scene with Carter revealed at last that Benton is human and pushed Carton who was seen as laggard to press forward. AND CARTER KNEW IT. It was a good episode.

S1からのファンです。医療に関わる人、その家族、患者とのヒューマンドラマです。ただ緊急救命という場所柄、生か死かという物と常に向き合う現場からのドラマなのでシリーズを見終わると心の奥底に深く残るストーリーも多々あります。
医療を題材にしたドラマはたくさんありますが、このシリーズはお勧めですよ。

特に、第18話　空に輝くオリオン。
最後の、君が中心になれ、、。
たまに見て号泣する。
ビデオ録画も持っているが、これはいまだに消せない。
組織、コミュニティを去る時、グリーン先生のように去ろう、と自身のバイブルになった。

今回のシリーズは見所がいっぱい。
スーザンの復帰、ベントン・クレオの降板、そしてマークの死・・・・。
登場人物が抱えるそれぞれの問題に、見入ってしまいます。
どのエピソードも、気になる終り方をしているため、「もう１話・・・う～んもう１話。」と止められない止まらない・・・。
特に今回の最大の見所は、グリーンの最期です。
離婚、暴漢と辛い過去を経験したマーク。
脳腫瘍と戦うマークの姿も、できれば見たくなかった。。。
その中で医師としてマークらしい姿もありました。
男児を励ますシーン、そして何といっても、最期の患者（小さな女の子）に「僕の最後の患者になってくれてありがとう」と言うシーン。
私はこのシーンのマークをずっと胸に焼き付けておきたい。

１ｓｔをNHKBSで見たのが最初。DVDが39800円だったころからコツコツと集めて、いまや８ｓｅｔ。
コレクターズセットを買うと、だいたい１週間で見てしまいます。
シリーズ中この８は一番グッと来る、胸が痛い・・・。
１～７シーズンは何度も見返してきたけど、今回はしばらく余韻に浸って居ようと思う。
次の９シーズンのＤＶＤはまた一年後かなぁ。
この後はどうなるんだぁ～まちどうしい！

ERをリアルタイムで見だしたのはシリーズ４あたりから。すぐとりこになった。ビデオ屋さんでDVDを借り、シリーズ１から見た。とにかく、面白い。ERという舞台、登場人物のキャラクター・デザインの巧みさ、
どうやって撮っているのだろうと思わせるカメラワーク、文句なしのリアリティ。今まで見た中で、シリーズ７とシリーズ８は特に面白い。私はシリーズ５から、とうとうDVDを買うようになった。いまシリーズ9を放映中だが、私の場合、マーク・グリーンというキャラクターが特に好きだ。文字通りの人格者。しかし、40前のかれに突然の不幸が襲う。幸せな再婚をして、子供もでき、これからとういう時、かれはあっけなくこの世を去った。ありがちなドラマ仕立てというひねくれた見方もあるが、我が身、そして、身辺でおきる突然の人生の転変を体験しているだけに余計リアリティを感じた。自分がもしあんな状態になった時、あそこまで自分をコントロールできるか。自信がない。そして、最後は病院ではなく、家族のハワイの静かなビーチハウスで死を迎える。そのシーンで流れた「オーバーザレインボー」の歌が素晴らしい。編曲が抜群。
私はこのシリーズを少なくともあと数回は見るでしょう。ところで、いまはというと、アビーが気になりますね。

Dr.グリーンが去るエピソードは単なるドラマの枠を越えてドキュメンタリー的に心を打つものがあります。それぞれのシーズンで大きな衝撃がありますが、今回はその中でも最大級。個人的にはこのシリーズでＥＲ自体を終わりにしてくれた方がよかったようにも感じてしまいます。でも、Dr.グリーンの去ったＥＲがカーターを中心に今後どんな展開をしていくのかも、1stシーズンからのＥＲファンとしては気になるところでもあります。

This is an incredible series, the actors and actresses are amazing, and it really gets you invested in their lives while also going into each patient every episode. Product came in wrapped nicely, nothing was broken or scratched, everything is working great. Shipping was really fast and came here before eta.

Season 8 is a real watershed (or great divide, if you wish) between the early seasons and those which will follow. I will try to avoid spilling too many beans, but its hard to avoid the fact that two of the most important characters leave, and one seasons 1-3 character returns (Susan Lewis).

Of course, the season is monopolized by the lives of Green and Benton. With Benton, it is largely with his battle over custody of "his" son. It is balanced on the kind of tipping point which puts the audience on the side against the law and accepted practice.

The brightest trends are the endurance of Abby Lockhart (Moira Tierney) and the rehabilitation of John Carter (Noah Wyle), with a bit of a blemish on Kerry Weaver's tough exterior (Weaver's scenes are almost always some of my favorites throughout the series. At times, especially in the beginning, she is abrasive against Greene's easy going competence. Once they are no longer in competition, Weaver's hard-ass but fair attitude is a great antidote to Robert Romano's generally nasty persona.

Late in the season, Mekhi Phifer comes on to start filling in the empty slots for the second half of the show's 15 seasons. Phifer's character, which would seem to be a replacement for Eriq La Salle's Peter Benton, is of a much different temperament, who seems sometimes oversure of himself, and sometimes too reckless.

The season ends with what may have been the best season ender since the beginning, which is appropriate, since the season as a whole is pivotal for the characters in the show as a whole.

This is the season that blew the lid of extordinary television. I remember that in the same year this season was scheduled and Mark Greene found out that his brain tumor was in-operable, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Buffy's mum) and Ally McBeal (Ally's Boyfriend) all had the same but individual amazing ways of killing off the central characters with a brain tumor. ER was the one that tore the crying heart strings and cracked open your chest as Mark was slowly killed over the course of the season. It was truly gut-wrentching to watch.

Anthony Edwards played Mark Greene wonderfully and his acting (as always) was complete magic. His final episode 'On The Beach' was a brillant piece of writing and acting and the music score was so compelling. It was the best storyline throughout the entire series run.

One of the best characters of the season was Alex Kingston's portrail of Dr. Elizabeth Corday as she had a few glorious moments. The scene where she is in Romarno's offices discussing Mark's illness was mind blowing, the writing was so good! And the acting was out-of-this-world. Trully amazing. There was also the storyline of Elizabeth being followed by infection control as they blamed her for certain patients who had died from a form of bacteria that all seemed to be linked with Corday.

Maura Tierney's had another year to shine as Abby Lockhart - storylines such as the abusive neighbour next door, the love triangle between her, Carter and Kovac and her final episode where great. Maura is a pleasure as always.

Susan Lewis was a magical moment to praise as Sherry Stringfield decided to reprise her character's role after leaving in season 3. She dated Carter in this season plus a reunion between her and Mark was lovely and I'm glad she returned before Mark died.

Benton leaves! I never really cared for Benton as he was horrible to Carter in the early years. His farwell storyline was great though.

Kerry Weaver also shined due to trouble with Ching May and she even got her own episode where she had to deliver a baby in an over-turned ambulance. Her reaction over Greene's death was perfect to, she is wonderful.

There is plenty of other great moments including kovac beating up the neighbour who attacked Abby, Carter dealing with his 'Gama's' dementia, the scene where Kerry found a dirty doll in her locker, carter taking the lead after Greene's death, Abby's birthday. My favorite episodes include Bygones, On the Beach, Supplies and Demands and Lockdown.

Endlich ist Staffel 8 nun doch mal erschienen und ich muss mich meinen Vorrednern leider Gottes anschließen.Diese doppelbeschichteten DVDs sind wirklich alles andere als praktisch und man hätte sich aufgrund der Vielzahl der Staffeln doch gewünscht das die Produktionsfirma das abstellt.Aber auch ein echter Fan lässt sich nun mal von solchen "Kleinigkeiten" nicht abschrecken und kauft und schaut natürlich trotzdem.
Zum Inhalt der Serie wurde hier schon viel gesagt-trotzdem muss ich doch ein paar Highlights hier noch anmerken.Man kann hier getrost sagen das das Klima und das gewohnte Schauen seiner Serie nach dieser Staffel leider nicht mehr das selbe ist.Die zwei Hauptprotagonisten Dr Peter Benton(Eriq LaSalle)und Dr Mark Greene(Anthony Edwards)verlassen nach 8 Jahren die Serie und hinterlassen -trotz starker Leistung von Noah Wyle ab Staffel 9-
ein riesiges Loch.Den Produzenten ist es aber einigermaßen gelungen dies abzuwenden in dem sie Dr Susan Lewis(großartig Sherry Stringfield)zurück holten (spielte schon mal in den Staffeln 1-3 mit)und damit so was wie alten Charme in die Serie einfliessen zu lassen.Des weiteren wird sich auch viel am restlichen Cast der Staffel verändern;Dr.Dave Malucci(Eric Palladino)wird gefeuert und verlässt genauso wie Dr.Cleo Finch(Michael Michele)die Notaufnahme.Ich persönlich finde kein grosser Verlust für die Serie denn beide waren nur unwichtige Nebendarsteller die auch irgendwie genervt haben.Dr.Chen(Ming Na)wird ebenfalls gefeuert und bleibt aber im Cast der Serie-ist aber leider viel zu selten zu sehen,was an den vielen anderen Aufträgen der Darstellerin liegt.Dafür gewinnen aufgrund der vielen "Verluste"der Serie die Darsteller Dr.Carter(Noah Wyle),Abby Lockheart(Maura Tierney)und Dr.Luka Kovecs(Goran Visnic)immer mehr an Bedeutung und machen ihre Sache auch richtig gut.
Neu im Cast sind Dr.Greg Pratt(Mekhi Pfifer)und Dr.Michael Gallant(Sharif Atkins)die beide auf Anhieb überzeugen.
Highlights in den Folgen sind natürlich Dr Lewis'Rückkehr,die Probleme mit Ihrer Schwester,Dr.Bentons Abgang und natürlich Dr.Greenes Tod.Der wird in den letzten drei Folgen der Staffel erzählt und stimmt einen wirklich traurig.Die letzte Folge ist natürlich auch nicht zu vergessen,als eine Epedemie in der Notaufnahem ausbricht,und als Cliffhänger für Staffel 9 dient.
Im großen und ganzen eine gelungene Staffel mit viel Geschichten und vielen Veränderungen,die wie gesagt nicht sehr gut für die Serie waren.Seitdem schwächelt sie nicht nur bei uns.Dennoch meine Empfehlung heisst natürlich kauft euch diese Dvd.Viel Spass beim Schauen.
